Clare Davenport - Vocals
How long have you been playing:
I've been singing for as long as I can remember! Whether it be in choirs, trio's, bands or being caught on my own singing in my bedroom with a hairbrush into a mirror - music has always played a massive part of my life! My first band was formed when I was 15 (so 15 years ago now!) although I've been songwriting since I was 12.
Previous Bands:
I have been in a lot of bands over the years, far too many to list in this little space!. The pick of the bunch would probably be;
- From Villain
- Fleet Street Fires
- Red Hot White (the original and reincarnated versions!)
Influences:
Without a shadow of a doubt its got to be Karen Carpenter & Suzanne Vega! What voices and songwriting ability!!
Equipment Used:
I choose to use Shure microphones and Hercules stands whilst playing live. Currently I'm using a Shure SM58b along with a Hercules MS201B H Base straight stand.
Favourite RHW Track:
Ooooh! Tough question!! I like the harmonies on 'Hotel California' but the blend and bounce of 'Set Fire To The Rain' & 'Begging'........'Nothing Ever Happens' is great to......infact, they're ALL great!!
Favourite Colour:
Blue
Star Sign:
Aries
Funniest Moment on Stage:
There's been a few!! I've been flashed a fair few times! (by both guys and gals) I've played with drummers who have been so drunk they've fallen off their stools (and risers!) mid song, I've forgotton words and ended up singing the same 2 lines throughout an entire verse, Ell slipping over whilst playing!
To be honest, I live for the banter between the band and the audience in between songs! I've had some great times whilst talking to the crowd - they come out with some real gems!! One of my favourite most recent times has to be when one of the audience told us to "please stop" instead of "don't stop"......it was cool though because she's not English (and we love her!) Its always nice to try to include the audience in a gig - like one big family!
Interesting Fact/Claim to Fame
I was part of a backing choir that recorded a 'top 10' single for the Euro's (football), I got Davina McCalls signature without actually knowing who she was, my dad once visited Orville the ducks' house! (for security reasons obviously!)
Where you see yourself in 10 years time.
10 years from now?? About 2 months off of my '40th birthday mid life crisis!'. I'd hope that by then I'll still be in an established band and gigging regularly....................around the world and playing Wembley and other massive stadiums!! (hey! a girl can dream can't she!)
